BRIMBANK City Council will meet with Assistant Police Commissioner Sandra Nicholson and tell of the municipality's need for more police numbers.
Brimbank Mayor Troy Atanasovski and chief executive officer Nick Foa will meet with the Assistant Commissioner on 15 May.
The meeting is an outcome of a council motion passed at 24 February 2009 council meeting, in which the council resolved to write to the Premier, the Deputy Premier, the Police Minister and Victoria Police Chief Commissioner to request more police in the area.
But while councillors voted unanimously on 24 February to write to the Chief Commissioner, police matters were not so clear-cut at the 28 April meeting.
Cr Robert Shamon moved a notice of motion to write to the Senior Sergeant at Keilor Downs Police Station to request higher profile policing methods and foot and bike patrols at hot spots in St Albans.
The motion caused controversy at the meeting, with some councillors slamming Cr Shamon's motion saying that more police were needed in hot spots across Brimbank and not just in St Albans.
Cr Margaret Giudice attempted to amend the motion by suggesting writing to police about crime hotspots across the municipality but it was defeated, much to the disgust of the gallery.
"I think there's alot of politicising going on and I don't think we can afford to play politics on community safety and the perception of community safety," Cr Giudice said.
Cr Giudice said she hoped the meeting with Assistant Commissioner Nicholson would see a response to the council's request for more police numbers.
